Also a little bit of wtsb news to pass along…Steph Parke, the fantastic lady who created and has run Words for the past 3 years is stepping down from the helm. She will be missed, though will continue to contribute photos to the project (yay). The equally fantastic mr. dave tuttle is taking over to keep to project going. Hoooray!  Good luck Steph and thanks Dave!

new life

we wait for what seems like an impossible amount of time. then, when the winter finally subsides, nature seems to celebrate. she explodes in flowers. it’s worth the wait every year.

WTSB : Blur

///////\\\\\\\

the latest Words to Shoot By will be up very soon! here’s a sneak peak at my shots. our word was blur.

when i walked into McCarten Violins i got the camera itch immediately. the racks of hanging instruments were remarkable, and at the perfect perspective to blur out at the edges. these violins and violas are truly works of art in themselves; the patina on each slightly different. McCarten is in the same building that houses the amazing Pawtucket Winter Farmers Market. You should drop in for both if you ever find yourself in the area on a Saturday morning.

if you want a little more insight on what goes into making one of these beautiful instruments here’s a really cool video from Dustin Cohen featuring Brooklyn-based luthier Sam Zygmuntowicz. This is also the debut of Dustin’s “Made in Brooklyn” series.

beach polo

29 Feb

///////\\\\\\\

a few shots from the conclusion of newport beach polo. in traditional form we rolled up pretty late, but it was great to get a closer view of the horses as they were being de-saddled and packed up in the trucks. i love how these turned out, even the odd blue-toned shot at the end. happy leap day!

WTSB : Askew

28 Feb

///////\\\\\\\

the latest words to shoot by is up! our word was Askew. i traveled down to providence RI to shoot with conor on sunday. he has been on a house hunt down there for a short while, so i asked him to show me around some of his favorite beaten beauties (aka his ‘slum-crushes’). i love the details of these houses, especially when things are a little askew….paint peeling or moldings bending outward to the sun. and as C pointed out, it’s also a double entendre as something is clearly askew for these estates to have fallen into such disrepair.

Stumptown Coffee @ The Ace Hotel. Portland, OR

these and a few more portland shots were hiding away in those black & white rolls i recently got back. I had just about forgot that I brought a spare camera to PDX for black & white shots. I love how these turned out! Greyscale is so fitting of the cool vibe of this stumptown.
