memorial day weekend! eric and i traveled to his fam’s beach cottage in CT to help prep it for the season. it was great to pitch-in with the fam and to dig our toes into the sand once again. sun, sand, grilling, beers…it’s was a pitch-perfect memorial day wknd. :)
the cottage / sand at last! / rita’s water ice! a fav of mine from philly that’s now in CT. eric and i got the largest ices we could muster! oh the brain-freeze was so worth it…but what’s up with me just getting brain freeze for the first time at age 30?! / the cottage looking lovely / my memorial day stripes and eric’s shadowy legs / keeping it somewhat traditional, we grilled our memorial day dinner. it was the first time i’d grilled tofu, and you know what? it was kick-ass.

{{{Also a very special happy birthday to my girl Beth today! and my sweet guy Eric tomorrow!}}}

the latest words to shoot by is up. our word was Out. i took my shots at the Ipswich River Sanctuary.
Also a little bit of wtsb news to pass along…Steph Parke, the fantastic lady who created and has run Words for the past 3 years is stepping down from the helm. She will be missed, though will continue to contribute photos to the project (yay). The equally fantastic mr. dave tuttle is taking over to keep to project going. Hoooray! Good luck Steph and thanks Dave!

another action packed weekend. Saturday we celebrated the last hang-out at my pal’s beacon hill bachelor pad. he’s the last one of our friends living in the city, guess we’re growing up. sunday eric and i planted our garden! it was one hell of a feat and I’m really proud of our little plot this year. i have a feeling it’s going to be a really good growing season as we had great success with starting our seeds on our sunporch this spring. the seedlings graduating to the garden this weekend included two kinds of basil, red lettuce, cone flowers, black eyes susans, brocoli rabe, peppers, two types of eggplant, 50+ tomatoes (mostly heirlooms), dill, and cabbage.
clockwise: rainer cherries have finally hit the market. mmm! / on a walk to harvard on saturday i picked up a new little accessory! this little guy must have thought i was flower with those bright pants / a serene charles river shot from the car on the way home from the garden / a little lady bird busy defending my garden from aphids! she actually landed on me right before this shot, i’m quite the bug whisperer this wknd right?
as always if you’d like to see more shots from my weekend, follow me (abneal) on instagram, there were plenty more that aren’t featured here.

i recently snagged some polaroid film which I plan to shoot intermittently though the summer. these were shot back on my birthday, in harvard square. the film is Impossible Project Color Shade 600. I love the peach tones of these two photos. it’s odd, because the bug was actually peach in color, but the ball jars were decidedly more blue in tone. I guess my camera envisioned these two as a pair and the second came out peach.

this past weekend i took in lots of much needed sun and fresh air. saturday, the weather was brilliant, really it couldn’t have been better. we went to the ipswich river sanctuary. we walked the trails, dipped our toes in the river, walked around barefoot, and became intoxicated with the silence of the forest. i took zillions of photos and instagrams. i hope to have some new polaroids up later this week which i shot in the woods, and some 120 film shots in a few weeks to share as well.
one of the many boardwalks in the IR Santuary. incidentally, it look a little barren here… but there was huge black snake curled up on the log in the foreground of that shot. and just steps behind me a momma groundhog hidding with her babies at the foot of a tree / blue birds atop their nesting boxes in the sanctuary / miss mossy toes, that’s me and it felt so good / strawberries! yup we ate the whole bowl in one sitting during our first porch brunch of the year.
as always if you’d like to see more shots from my weekend, follow me (abneal) on instagram, and this weekend there were plenty more that aren’t featured here.

eric and i have a new tree crush, the copper beech. there will surly be one beside that big old house we have some day. copper beeches can live up to 300 years, and have trunks up to 10 feet in diameter!their leaves are stunning, translucent, and at times seemingly florescent when the sun hits them. cambridge is rich with these beech trees, so we’ll keep crushing on ‘em till we win the lottery and buy that big old house.
have a good weekend!
